Putting the Patient back into the Patient Centered Medical Home

One of the most exciting developments in primary care today is the growth of Direct Primary Care (DPC) practices which are sometimes referred to as Direct Primary Care Medical Homes or sometimes Direct Patient Centered Medical Home (D-PCMH). Primary care physicians has shaken off the shackles of insurance in day-to-day medicine returning to the proverbial Marcus Welby, MD model of care. Patients love it as they get more time with doctors while saving money. Physicians love it as they are able to practice medicine the way they were trained, dramatically reduce their overhead, and take home additional income as money  that would otherwise go to insurance bureaucracy can be shared between the patient and the physician.

Perhaps more than another other category of medicine, Avado has struck a chord with DPC practices. So it was exciting when we opened to use of Avado up that one of the DPC practices that has adopted Avado was eager to move their entire patient base onto Avado. Despite our caution to go slow, Craig Koniver, MD sent out an email to his entire practice to get them on Avado. He describes why better than us (see below). Like other forward-thinking doctors, Dr. Koniver recognizes that the most important member of the care team is the patient themselves. Unfortunately, you'd never know that with legacy HealthIT. At best, patients are dealt with as recipients of one-way broadcasts of some data from the practice vs. critical members of the care team. I'll let Dr. Koniver's words introduce Avado to patients. A Better Way To Communicate With You!

It is my goal to provide you with the very best natural medicine care. As such, the method by which I communicate with all of you is very important to me. I want to be available to you while at the same time keeping track of everything going on with you.

Over the past decade, I have been using different Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) to document and keep track of patient details. Unfortunately, these records have become limited because they do not offer you, the patient, the opportunity to keep track as well. Doesn’t it get tiring having to ask for medical records and labs and radiology reports? And what happens if you go see other doctors and want them to have access to your information.

After a long search, I have found an outstanding new software product that I want to start using with you right now. This new product is called Avado and was founded by Dave Chase, the former developer of Microsoft’s Health Business platform.

Dave has built an outstanding team around him and I am confident that you will really enjoy using Avado.

Avado is very different from all other electronic record systems: Avado has been built from the ground up as a Patient Relationship Management Platform. As such, I will now start using Avado to communicate with all of my patients.

This is very important–I want to make communicating with you as feasible as possible but also safe and secure. Email works well but is wrought with its share of issues. Using Avado will allow us to communicate securely and efficiently and the best part is that all of our “messaging” will become a part of your health record.

Forgot when to take your Vitamin C or Fish Oil? Should you take Probiotics with food or without? Now it will be very easy to look back at your very own personal record and see what I recommended.

I strongly urge all of my patients to go to:

https://organicmednow.avado.com/

to sign up right now. Once you sign up, you will then have the opportunity to enter all of your personal information and we can continue our conversations and plans for helping you reach optimal health and well-being.

Avado is a new company so I am sure there will be glitches on the way, but I can assure you that this new program will make keeping track of all of your health information simple and comprehensive at the same time.
In addition, since I really want to make communicating with you a top priority, I strongly encourage you to start using Avado to message with me from this point moving forward.

Stay tuned for next week when I have some really great news to share!
